Five years after the publication Les Miserables Victor Hugo began writing what one critic described as 'the maddest book in recognised literature'. The book was L'Homme Qui Rit - The Laughing Man. Chicken Shed's new musical version comes complete with a singing bear, a dancing corpse, a shipwreck, a frozen woman, a torture chamber, and the entire House of Lords behaving like football hooligans at the last Night of the Proms...but The Laughing Man is also a love story, with 20 new songs by Jo Collins and a book and lyrics by Chris Bond whose Sweeney Todd was made into a musical by Stephen Sondheim.
