Details
John Clare's words hum with the buzz of bees in an English garden evoking visions of a countryside and lifestyle almost forgotten. Northamptonshire's "peasant poet" was a brilliant observer of the natural scene who was inspired to write his own poetry after reading Thomson's
Seasons. From then on the poet consumed the labourer in him. Clare once said he found his poems in the fields and simply wrote them down.
