As part of Freedom Week, Komola Collective would like to bring to life some of the diary entries of Jahanara Imam, a Bangladeshi writer and political activist. She is most widely remembered for her efforts to bring to trial those accused of committing war crimes in the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971. ?The Mother of Martyrs, as she is popularly known, launched a campaign to bring the war criminals of Bangladesh to justice. Her heartache voiced a nation's demand. We intend to do a spoken word presentation performed by Leesa Gazi complemented by freedom songs by Sohini Alam. Also a few letters from the surviving sons and daughters of freedom fighters will be a crucial part of this performance. It will tell a humane story from a mother's point of view who lost her son and from the children's perspective who lost their parents in the midst of a brutal conflict.
