Plotwell loves Susannah Townley. So does Underplot. But Dr Fossile has secretly married her, and he is determined to keep attractive single men OUT of the house. Susannah has other plans. And when Fossile's niece Phoebe, a dippy would-be writer, asks Plotwell to pretend he has written her play, the stage is set for jealousy, intrigue and increasingly surreal attempts at disguise... The RSC's 1996 revival of John Gay, Alexander Pope and John Arbuthnot's obscure eighteenth century satire is brought to the big screen at the V&A.
