Details

Spinalba was written in 1739 and first performed at the Ribeira Palace in Lisbon. The libretto involves false identities, love scenes and madness, while Almeida's appealing and expressive music concentrates on the sentimental rather than the comic possibilities It will be sung in the English translation by Rodney Blumer which was made for the only other UK production of the opera in 1979. What promises to be a highly enjoyable and entertaining operatic event is not to be missed.
