Shooting Shakespeare archiveThe year is 1904 and the early pioneers of film, desperate to elevate the tone of their fledgling artform, decide to enlist the help of the mighty actor-managers of the age. This fragile alliance of high and low art sets sail on an ocean of uncontroller egos, murderous intrigue and cutthroat rivalry, as they attempt to commit the stage's Greatest Shakespeareans to celluloid. Through the flicker of the vast pedal-powered projectors something peculiar is emerging. The audience looks on, open-mouthed and spellbound in the darkness... Inspired by the early silent Shakespeare films in the British Film Archive, Shooting Shakespeare continues Forkbeard Fantasy's love of all things cinematic. Their classic trademark blend of theatre, film and comedy has been delighting audiences around the world for thirty years.
