The play is set against the background of Indian culture and society, yet the connotation of its substance and theme is universal, encompassing the experience of traditional communities, irrespective of their ethnic origin and belief. It deals with the family of Dina Nath Joshi (his wife, daughter and son) and son-in-law Arun Mahar Athawle. Both are victims as well as perpetrators of social injustice.
