Founded by Denis Coe, British Youth Opera nurtures and trains young operatic talent by offering the experience of working in a professional company and performing at major venues. From Carlo Gozzi - the 18th-century Italian writer of Turandot and other magical fables - comes a sequel to The Love of Three Oranges, in an English translation by Adam Pollock with music by Jonathan Dove. Written in 1994, The Little Green Swallow was Dove's first full-length opera, paving the way for his later Flight, The Enchanted Pig, The Adventures of Pinocchio and Mansfield Park. British Youth Opera (BYO) gave the third UK production of Flight - heralded as one of the company's most acclaimed productions to date - and are proud to return to Dove's music for this third production of The Little Green Swallow. Set 18 years after The Love of Three Oranges, The Little Green Swallow weaves commedia dell'arte into a fairy-tale world of intrigue and magic. The truly fabulous cast includes a court-jester-turned-sausage-vendor, long-lost royal twins, a couple of singing statues, three singing apples (after the previous fable's three oranges) and the little green swallow... who is not what he seems.
