Details
A dance-theatre piece based on the life and ecstatic poetry of Mahadevi Akka, who's husband held onto her sari as she left him, so she wandered naked as she searched for union with Shiva. Three unique puppets - one cast in ice, the second of cloth, and the third of brass - represent and embody Mahadevi as she negotiates the sceptical male world. Gitanjali Kolanad's choreography is based in folk and ritual dance forms of South India. Created in collaboration with Phillip Zarilli with music composed and recorded by Babu Parameshwaren, who has worked with artists such as Ravi Shankar and George Harrison.
