Details
Ballet for Life is an intensely moving work which draws inspiration from the lives of Freddie Mercury and Bejart's former principal dancer Jorge Donn, both of whom died tragically of AIDS. The piece is danced to a soundtrack of Queen's greatest hits, including
I Want to Break Free and
The Show Must Go On, and is interspersed with pieces by Mozart.
Ballet for Life was first performed in 1997 and has played to packed stadiums across Europe. Bejart's homage to two artists of formidable talent is a dramatic encounter between music and life, death and love.
