Celebrating its 45th Anniversary in 2000, Paul Taylor Dance Company continues to combine the classical and the contemporary, presenting some of the most exciting and accessible performances in the history of dance. Offenbach Overtures conjures up the joie de vivre of the Belle Epoch. The Word is a study in group conformity, set to music specially composed by David Israel. The cast of 12 dancers, clad in black and white school uniforms, are challenged by an enigmatic, irreverent figure intent on wreaking havoc with the status quo. Promethean Fire examines a kaleidoscope of human emotions. Breathtaking waves of dancers in black velvet perform to Leopold Stokowski’s striking orchestrations of pieces by Bach.
