Details
In the original Gregor Samsa is a travelling salesman until, that is, the day he wakes up as a gigantic insect. So begins Berkoff's exploration of Kafka's surreal tale. In a world where money and work are God, this play reminds us the human spirit should not be taken for granted. This very ?different' adaptation of Kafka's classic is set in a Yoruba village, where young Abeni wakes up to find she has changed into a locust... Kafka's nightmare story remains intact but this production is full of twists, turns, magic and a message for us all. The West African setting proves to be fertile ground for Metamorphosis: Kafka's magical realism seamlessly slotting into West African culture
