Since he burst onto the scene in 1996, Henri Oguike has become a leading force in dance. Combining technical virtuosity with the immediacy of live music, his work has won numerous awards and given a creative blood transfusion to the world of contemporary dance. By turns thundering and gentle, visceral and flirtatious, the work of this dynamic young company. Henri Oguike - 'one of the brightest hopes of British contemporary dance' (Daily Telegraph) - presents a stunning new triple bill and a hand-picked quintet of world-class dancers. Intense and unusual, yet shot through with trademark playfulness, Freq is a surprising solo piece played out to the music of Chopin. Point of Contact is classic Oguike: sensuality, beauty and sublime movement underscored by Bach's lyrical suites for solo cello. Butterfly Dreaming is a full Company work inspired by the Far East and set to Tan Dun's dramatic Ghost Opera recorded by the Kronos Quartet. Crafted on Chuang-Tzu's famous philosophical conundrum, 'the butterfly dream', it takes wing on a flight of fantasy, exploring the boundaries between the real and imagined. With wit, drama and bold theatrical colour, this is modern dance at its most thrilling and enjoyable. Henri Oguike Dance Company website.
