Our hero and heroine become separated: Florence to London to cope with damp blankets and the sleepless rigours of international diplomacy, while Jack at home deals with the back-stabbing cut and thrust of first-time parenthood. An invasion is imminent, spies are abroad and a marriage badly needs saving: what comes first, family or country?
