Details

On an uncertain pretext the forces of a Western power launch a massive invasion against an Asian state. The war is won, the city swiftly subjugated, but the shock of war pales before the catastrophic peace that ensues... Howard Barker's extraordinary epic, written in 1986 and first performed by the RSC in 1988, predates the first Gulf War and yet is startlingly prescient of the most recent Western adventure east of the Mediterranean. Contains strong language, scenes of violence and some nudity.
