It is 1937 and Britain is a soviet-style republic, the 1917 revolution having happened here rather than in Russia. The royal residence at Balmoral has become a state home for writers but one of the writers has disappeared - just when the capitalist press arrives on the doorstep from St Petersburg to interview him! This is the cue for a hilarious and fast-moving farce from the pen of the talented Michael Frayn.
