'Welcome to hell sweetheart'. Evelyn Delaney arrives up from the country in the summer of 1963 to begin her working life in a suburban Dublin telephone exchange. Dublin, she feels, is terribly different to Trim. Nora, Mags and Dympna have been working there for ages and seem very worldly. But it's only a year before she can save enough to go back to live in Trim to marry the man of her dreams. A shared obsession with the gorgeous JFK brings the four women closer and soon they discover hidden secrets won't stay hidden all summer.
