Details
Catherine Booth was one of the most exceptional women of the Victorian era. As a Christian and feminist, she had a commitment to improve society, and was a driving force behind the foundation of the Salvation Army, a movement which would sweep the world in less than 20 years. She had strong views on many issues from the upbringing of children to the financial dealings of City bankers, and although her achievements have often been overshadowed by those of her husband, William Booth, no woman before her exercised so direct an impact on the religious life of her time.
