Details
This play and its first production were received ecstatically when it opened off-Broadway, and won several best new play and best production awards including a New York Drama Critics Circle Award during its premier year, 1972. Clive Barnes, the famous New York critic, said that it was an
'unbeatable winner, a hit, a home run'. Set in a seedy downtown hotel scheduled for demolition, we experience the inconsequential happenings between the sad inmates that are trivial but potent, sad and funny. The floating flotsam and jetsam of society try valiantly to keep moving forward with a positive spirit as their dreams and hopes seem to disappear into the dust, along with the destruction of the hotel.
