Paul Lacey's Back To Basie Orchestra were voted Best Big Band at the British Jazz Awards in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009. Back to Basie is Britain's primary Count Basie tribute orchestra, directed by trumpet player Paul Lacey and featuring top session musicians and jazz soloists dedicated to playing the music of Count Basie's second great orchestra of the 1950s and 1960s. Paul Lacey's Back To Basie is the only professional big-band in Britain to specialise in the music of Count Basie: straight ahead swing, played with dynamics, good humour, and a large dose of the blues! Back To Basie features vocalist Jacqui Hicks alongside the best of London's jazz and big-band musicians playing the music of Basie's second great orchestra of the1950s and 1960s, the legendary Swingin' Machine. Launched in 2001, Back To Basie have been presenting concerts with uncanny accuracy and style throughout Britain and Europe to great reviews ever since, and have been voted Best Big Band in the British Jazz Awards - six times!
