A story of love, betrayal and rebellion. "It was by a woman's treacherous hand, than I was condemned tae dee"
MacPhersons Rant takes you to Banff-shire in the late 17th Century. Set against the backdrop of Bonnie Prince Charlie's Jacobite rebellion, we follow the story of James MacPherson who was hung in Banff for being a gypsy and who smashed his fiddle on the gallows tree as he sung MacPherson Lament a well known and much loved song. Combining the best in Celtic roots music to create startling new versions of classic folk songs such as; Ye Jacobites, Twa Recruiting Sergeants, Ye Banks and Braes and The Roving Journeyman. An ensemble cast of professional actors and musicians will perform alongside a large community chorus which shall bring to life the demise of James MacPherson. The tale, that fascinated and inspired Robert Burns & Sir Walter Scott had its Musical premiere in 2009 in as part of Scotland's Homecoming Year and has been produced again by the Byre Theatre in 2012 especially for St Andrews: Scotland's Creative Place 2012 and is part of the St Andrews Festival.
