Aftermath archiveIf the recent Chilcot Inquiry occasionally played out like a courtroom drama, then ?Aftermath' is a timely reminder that the real damage done during the war in Iraq was to human lives rather than political reputations. Disenchanted with only seeing Iraq through the lens of TV news, in 2008 Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen from New York Theatre Workshop and Actors Gang - the theatre ensemble formed by Hollywood star and liberal activist Tim Robbins - decided to get as up close and personal as possible by visiting Iraqis who had fled the chaos and terror for Jordan. Aftermath is a profoundly moving piece of theatre based upon interviews with 35 of the people they met there, whose voices express both the refugee's relief at finding sanctuary and an exile's longing for their homeland, and who possesses an eloquence and insight the news headlines will never have. A New York Theatre Workshop Production. Produced by ArKtype in Association with Amnesty International. Running time: 85mins approx.
