Set in Italy at the end of the 19th century, Leoncavallo s The Clowns (I Pagliacci) tells the story of a troupe of travelling commedia dell arte players recently arrived in a small Calabrian village. Six professional soloists and a small orchestra combine forces with a chorus and a Harlequinade of children from London schools to perform this 'play within a play - in which they find their real lives and loves intertwining with those of their character. EPOC's 2004 translated production of I Pagliacci.
