Details
Guistino tells the story of a farm boy, destined by the gods for greatness, who rescues a variety of maidens from an assortment of wild beasts. Having captured the Emperor's enemy Vitaliano in battle, he soon becomes the sovereign's favourite. The hero then battles jealous rivals and discovers an unexpected familial tie before the story's dramatic denouement. The Italian libretto was adapted from Pietro Pariati's Giustino, after Nicolo Beregan's Il Giustino.
