Macbeth

Macbeth

Work:: Macbeth (S4096)

The Scottish Play - theatrical types consider saying its name to be unlucky! Thrust into power by his overwhelming desires and an over ambitious wife, Macbeth finds his only security is to murder and murder again. From "When shall we three meet again" to "is this a dagger I see before me" a powerful Shakespearean drama.

Janet Spinlove : 22Sep23: Star Rating
Very disappointed. Especially coming from the RSC (who I have seen many times before). It was weird, poorly acted (very wooden by the principal characters) and I heartily dislike main characters being substituted (eg Banquo- why make him/ her a woman??). Plus I found the instruments distracting in their overblown-ness & discordancy. The Porter interlude was unnecessary & out of keeping. The worst thing was that I (& several others) couldn’t make out the words - they weren’t projected clearly & many lines were thrown away (presumably in the interests of artistic effect). If the RSC are set on presenting an alternative version of Macbeth then a) this should have been flagged up in the blurb (& I wouldn’t have wasted £52) and b) put it on at The Other Place. We left at the interval
