Gossamer

The play tells the true story of two young girls in a small Yorkshire Village, who in 1917 photographed fairies while playing in woods near their home. Innocent enough fun, until the photographs found their way to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of Sherlock Holmes and firm believer in the existence of a spirit world and its inhabitants. Soon, news of the story spread and the girls were thrust into the limelight, encountering believers and dissenters in seemingly equal measure. The latter group championed by master trickster Harry Houdini who would befriend Conan Doyle even though their views were literally worlds apart. Till the day they died, over 60 years later, the girls were both extremely reticent in explaining just what did happen in Cottingley Beck on that summer morning.
