Details

fareWel archivefareWel by Aboriginal Canadian playwright Ian Ross, is set on a fictional First Nation's Reserve in Manitoba, Canada. The story begins when the Welfare (fareWel) cheques do not arrive, the Chief takes off for Las Vegas, and the Reserve goes into receivership. An enormous success when it premiered at Prairie Theatre Exchange in 1996, farWel went on to win the 1997 Governor General's Award for Best Drama. Performed by an all-Aboriginal cast, it is a provocative and humorous parable about power, politics and identity.
