Details
A comedy about the Home Front in Wales to mark the 60th Anniversary of the end of World War 2. A portrait of Wales in wartime,
The Way it Was draws upon both the reminiscences of local people and popular songs of the time to explore both the eccentric and austere experiences of daily life on the Home Front. When war is declared in 1939 Jack Hopkins forms a musical combo to keep up spirits, but when his son loan is called up they are left without a pianist. Soon a young teacher who can play arrives in the village. But is she who she says she is? Meanwhile Flora is waging a war against her older sister, and when a young evacuee arrives from London she has reinforcements.
The Way it Was tells Jack and Flora's story is a brilliant often humorous evocation of home life in a rural community in Wales.
