The Spanish Armada Story archiveIn May 1588, the largest armada ever to be assembled sailed from Spain with the intention of invading and conquering England. For many of them, this plan was never realised, as several ships encountered severe gales in these waters, and were shipwrecked along the Irish Coast. This performance tells the amazing story of one Captain De Cuellar, a Spaniard who was washed ashore in Sligo and late made his way to the Antrim Coast from where he continued on to Scotland. Based on the actual writings of De Cuellar, this specially commissioned piece enlists the aid of over twenty actors, musicians and dancers to unravel this tale of 16th century adventure, which some 400 years later still links the people of Antrim, Sligo and Corunna in Spain.
