The Lonsome West archiveThe final part of the Leenane Trilogy by Ireland's answer to Quentin Tarantino. The Lonesome West is an hilarious play set in the outrageously dysfunctional cloistered yet mythical west Irish landscape. The fictional Leenane is still the murder capital of Ireland, with dark, funny and outlandish goings-on in deepest Connemara. Two brothers are living together in their dead father's house, but this is no happy family. Each holds secrets which bind them together in undying hostility, like a penned-up Cain and Abel. When their angst-ridden and alcoholic priest begs them to confess their sins, confession only intensifies their hatred, leading to an orgy of destruction. Sardonic, beautifully tender and gut-achingly funny.
