The Gift archiveThe Gift is the story of one family's struggle with their genetic heritage. Teenager Annie Kay dreams of a career as a professional footballer until she discovers that she has a debilitating genetic disorder that ends her dreams of Wembley glory. Moving to the 21st century, her nephew, Mark dreams of a career as tennis pro. But he is clear of any genetic disorder thanks to genetic screening before birth. In fact, his existence - and his talent - is due to test-tube selection and fertilisation. The opportunities to eliminate these 'rogue genes' also raise disturbing questions. How far should selection go? Who should make the decisions? The Gift blasts open the debate about such genetic dilemmas and asks where do you stand?
