Vienna, 1902. Alma is twenty-one, beautiful, clever, talented, and an aspiring composer. Torn between marriage to the famous Gustav Mahler and the younger, less celebrated composer, Alexander von Zemlinsky, her teacher, and supporter of her musical ambitions, she marries Mahler knowing that as his future wife he has forbidden her to compose. How will she face the frustrations of having to give up her own musical career? What influence will this have on her future, and on her relationship with Mahler? Renowned today mainly as a femme fatale, Alma will seek personal fulfilment in other ways, but how will this bid for freedom affect her reputation?
