The Blood of Others archiveParis, June 1st 1958. The eve of General De Gaulle's election victory. Jean Blomart, resistance hero and political radical, books a room in a rundown hotel, his only luggage: a gun. the Left is dead and his dreams are turned to dust. Today he will face his crimes and find peace. Written during the occupation and published in 1945, this second novel from the writer of The Second Sex dramatises the existentialist dilemma and the mental turmoil of those who fought in the French resistance. The Blood of Others is a love story spanning the lives of two people torn apart by the conflict between political idealism and personal needs. Set in post war Paris at a time of disillusionment for those who fought for freedom, it examines the nature of choice, action and responsibility.
