Past Tense archiveWhen three cousins meet to organise the affairs of a dead aunt, a vibrant and astonishing story of real love is uncovered, surviving time and separation, while struggling against the constraints of an unforgiving society - itself trying to come to terms with the biggest war of the 20th century. Set in two different time periods, Past Tense juxtaposes the relationships between three cousins in the present day, against the remarkable story of their Great Aunt Carol, who embarked on a love affair with a vibrant female student in the tumultuous era of 1930s and 40s Britain. While the cousins have their own rivalries, jealousies, insecurities and secrets, as the play progresses, their lazy assumptions about a relative they barely knew turn out to be a million miles from the astonishing truth.
