My Darlin' Janey archiveCalamity Jane (1848 -1903) is a legendary figure throughout the world but little is really known of her true life, as Calamity herself has hindered our knowledge by her outrageous lies and storytelling. Of the documented facts we know she had a love affair with Bill Hickock which produced a daughter, Janey. To ensure a better future than the one she could provide, she reluctantly gave her up for adoption, keeping a diary of letters which would one day be read by her 'darlin' Janey'. This dramatisation shows a woman of strength, compassion, who was brave and a loyal friend to those in need and who led a fascinating and dangerous life in the 'Wild Wild West'. The play includes her visit to London in 1887 where she performed in Colonel Bill Cody's (Buffalo Bill's) Wild West Show with Annie Oakley, Sitting Bull, Red Cloud, and Frank North, for Queen Victoria and the Prince of Wales. My Darlin' Janey is based on the original letters of Calamity Jane which are in the Wonderland Museum, Billings, Montana.
