Flux archiveRachel is a successful businesswoman whose life is turned upside down when a family member falls ill. Suddenly, she's a carer with no support from her society, terrified of becoming a product of the environment she's spent so long attempting to reject. At the other end of the street lives Temi, a young girl on the brink of going to university. The life that was mapped out for her and the independence she had dreamt of seemingly disappears when her life changes and she too will become a carer. Flux tells the story of two women, living under an evolving skyline that they no longer feel a part of. Old garage classics are interwoven throughout the piece and act as the sound of the time. As these two stories of womanhood and the silent struggle that it brings unfold, the streets around them crumble into expensive apartment buildings made for the rich. Themes of mental health and loss take centre stage as Rachel and Temi attempt to battle through these struggles and ultimately follow a new path, one that isn't perfect, but if there's one thing women can do, it's survive.
