Details

Dr Korczak archiveDr Janus Korczak was a respected pediatrician and writer, renowned throughout Eastern Europe, who directed an orphanage for Jewish children in 1930's Warsaw. He created a unique republic in which the children had their own parliament, law courts and newspaper, however, his experiment was brought abruptly to an end when World War Two broke out. The play encourages the audience to question when it should become possible, or appropriate, for a child to acquire the responsibilities that accompany adulthood. The Holocaust will be explored as a stark contrast to the idealism represented in Korczak's work.
