Brother Outsider: The Life and Times of Baynard Rustin archiveEclipsed in recent years by the interest in such figures as James Baldwin and Langston Hughes, Bayard Rustin, the man who taught Martin Luther King pacifism, was one of the most important openly gay black Americans of the 20th century. Rustin rose through the ranks of the Civil Rights movement to become King's mentor in non-violence, after being imprisoned as a conscientious objector in World War II. Packed with rare archive footage, this award-winning documentary reveals that in later years Rustin's attention had turned to gay rights and that he still had something to say.
