Broken is a hilarious tragedy that takes a sideways glance at modern life and concludes with a raised eyebrow ! It is the story of Joe, who is released from prison after a seven-year stretch, full of enthusiasm and resolve. However, things to do not go according to plan and a number of chance meetings force Joe into a downward spiral of confusion and self-doubt, leading him to commit a crime that will send him back to jail. This is the story of a person who tries to start living by the moral standards that we impose on ourselves, only to find himself crushed by the apathy, cynicism and hypocrisy inherent in modern culture. Thus, with a unique sense of humour, this play addresses important issues of justice and society today. When first produced at the 1999 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the play received rave reviews from both press and public alike :
