Details
A brilliant and witty play for adults which starts with a sexual dalliance between a prostitute and a soldier, and finishes with one between the same prostitute and a count. Others we meet include a young wife (with her husband and also with a young gentleman), her husband (also involved with a 'sweet girl'), a poet and an actress. This delightful canter through liaisons, which are always lustful and sometimes dangerous, is sophisticated, humorous and full of brilliant insights. The first performance of this erotic masterpiece was closed down by the Vienna police in 1921. In the 1950s came a film version called
La Ronde. Most recently David Hare's updated adaptation,
The Blue Room, starred Nicole Kidman.
