Backstage At the Pussy-Kat Klub archiveDanny's ancestral background is less than straightforward. As his father says, 'We're German, Homosexual, Afro-American, Cross-dressing, Communist Jews!' Gowan Calder's play follows the journey of cabaret star Danny, from a tenement in Glasgow to the notorious drag clubs of Berlin, amid back-stage chaos and onstage antics. It also tells the story of Danny's 'grandmother' Lillian, from the Nazi concentration camps - via a startling change of identity - to the dance-halls of Glasgow, challenging society's need to label and stereotype along the way.
