Frustrated by the monotony of suburban life and her father's strict rules, Ann Veronica Stanley is determined to win her independence, and follow her dream of becoming a scientist. The only problem? It's 1909, and she's a woman - in a patriarchal society still in the grip of stuffy Victorian morals.
