Details
In 1912, the Austrian Expressionist artist Egon Schiele was arrested and imprisoned on charges of 'immorality' and 'seduction'. The incident took place in the village of Neulengbach, twenty miles from Vienna, where Schiele had gone to find seclusion to pursue his work. Together with his partner, Valerie Neuzil, a red haired Viennese model introduced to him by his teacher Gustav Klimpt, Schiele caused a local sensation with his unusual appearance, behaviour and the explicit subject matter of his innovative drawings and watercolours. This mixed-media performance uses image, word, music and dance, to deconstruct this moment of crisis in Schiele's life, and look at the function of the artist in society.
