An older couple, Grace and Milton, now find their farm near Ruthin difficult to manage. Their son-in-law suggests developing the site with its historical associations, as a visitor centre, starting now in the summer of 2014 with a dramatisation of All Quiet On The Western Front. As the performance is about to begin, a mysterious stranger appears with a story which troubles Grace. Local people now re-enact scenes from the novel, while Grace, as narrator, confronts not only the historical past but also her own.
