A Bench on the Road archiveA Bench on the Road follows six women living through the massive Italian migration that took place between 1850 and 1950. Using prose, poetry and music from Scottish and Italian traditions, the experiences of both nationalities are brought to life with stories of women divided, yet united, in a battle for identity and belonging. Based on hundreds of interviews collected over thirty years, the play is deeply relevant to current debates around immigration, exploring themes of acceptance and rejection, confrontation and collaboration.
