Details
Wildly popular in its own day, this production of The She-Devil will be the first UK stage production of the work since the eighteenth century. The She-Devil (composed in 1755) was written by two of the greatest talents ever to write for the musical theatre, the playwright Carlo Goldoni and the composer Baldassare Galuppi. Goldoni's razor-sharp comedy of manners, satirising the battle of the sexes, social snobbery and human vanity, is brought to life in light, sparkling music, which you can guarantee you'll be humming for weeks. Watch what happens as the prickly Count and Countess are mistaken by their host, Don Poppone Bigbelli, for low-class gold-diggers, and the abrasive young lovers Dorina and Giannino for upper-class toffs. The young couple are on the make, trying to extract money from the gullible Bigbelli. But will their scheme succeed?
