Details

Commissioned in 1996 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of The Jarrow March, The Burning Road was first performed at The Derngate, Northampton in 1997, then in Durham Cathedral before receiving its London premier in 1999 to great critical and public acclaim. This powerful cantata, with words by Ben Dunwell, captures both the plight and the hope of the Jarrow Marchers and St Albans was one of the many towns the marchers stopped at on their long and arduous journey to London.
