Details
The Seine Rejoicing was commissioned by the French ambassador during the mid 1720s for a private performance at his home in Venice. The title of the piece was intended as flattery towards the French and their monarch. Vivaldi's writing, inimitably Italian, and inimitably Vivaldi, also bows its head towards French music with the inclusion of a delightful chaconne and, to open the evening, a French Overture.
