Details

Gounod's rarely heard, charming opera comique dates from 1860 and is based on Le falcon a story by La Fontaine. The original production had dialogue between the musical numbers but this production uses seldom heard recitatives composed by Poulenc for a production by Diaghilev in 1924. It is paired with Rossini's entertaining burletta which dates from 1812. Both operas will be sung in the original language with surtitles.
