Details

A fascinating, tragic counterpart to Gluck's famous version of the Greek legend of lost love, Haydn's opera begins with Euridice in despair meeting Orpheus who saves her life with his beautiful singing. Their marriage is blessed by her father Creon, but when Euridice dies, the force of Orpheus's love leads him to descend to the underworld to bring her back to life.
